it was a sunday. i had been sick for almost two weeks and finally left the house that morning to go to a friend’s baby shower. mike was working until 5, so as soon as i got back from the shower, i laid on the couch and waited for him to get home with our pizza. i was still wearing my nice-ish shirt from earlier, but had mike’s gigantic sweatpants on as my bottoms. i was a mess. a sweaty, sick-looking mess who then ate a half of a pizza! right after we ate, mike went and changed into jeans and said he had to go drop a title off at his friend’s house, which i truly thought nothing of! i just laid right back on the couch like a huge bum and watched E News or some other show i can only watch when he isn’t home!

about an hour later, mike came home, and i was about ready to fall asleep. he went into the guest room and changed into his comfy clothes, and the next thing i knew, he had come up behind me on the couch, wrapped his arms around me, and put the open ring box right on my chest. then he said, “wanna get marrrrrried???!!!” i could NOT believe this. it was SUNDAY NIGHT! i was DISGUSTING! i had just eaten A HALF OF A PIZZA! so i said, “shut the f* up!” and “i hate you!!” so sweet, right. so romantic?! but i was SOOOO happy…. i was at the point where i was thinking i would be waiting a really long time for this moment! i finally really said “YES” and put my gorgeous, dream-come-true ring on my finger!

i was so happy i could’ve died! i no longer felt sick or tired at all, i was so excited and mike was so sweet about the whole thing. he then told me that he didn’t go to his friend’s, HE LIED! he had gone to my parents’ house to ask for their permission to MARRY ME! they had just gotten home from DC and he had been waiting all weekend for them to get home so he could ask in person. i, of course, wanted to know EVERYTHING they said, and hearing him tell me how it all went down made me the happiest of all. mike is the most amazing guy ever, and not only am i so lucky to have him, but my entire family is lucky to be adding such a great person to our little team!

we made some very happy phone calls, and then went on to drink TWO BOTTLES OF WINE and stay up until 1;30am talking about our excitement and pretty much just staring at my ring, dreaming of the future. i think mike also danced with brutus saying “are you excited you’re gonna have a real mom!?!” i honestly couldn’t even believe it was real! it’s so funny because i always imagined mike making a big deal when he decided to propose and take me somewhere, or be out in public, but i am SO HAPPY he did it this way because, honestly, it is so “us”. we have pizza every sunday {especially during football season}, it was simple, casual, private, relaxed, and just easy. i am so insanely lucky to have found the guy who makes me happier than i have ever been in my life, supports me and everything i do, loves me every single day, and makes all of my dreams a reality!

what we eat

mike and i like to have a plan., especially when it comes to food. we make a meal plan before the beginning of each week, and shop accordingly. we have gotten really good at streamlining our shopping, which makes everything else so much easier!!

basically, mike goes to BJs every few weeks and stocks up on things we eat all the time: ground turkey, chicken breasts, pork tenderloin, chobani, laughing cow, brussel sprouts, coffee, and some household stuff.

then, we go to the regular grocery store weekly for fresh produce, milk, and whatever else we need for the meals on our weekly plan.

the salmon and steak tips are things we will buy the day-of, but everything else is all set and ready to go… so easy, and SO worth it to not think about “what’s for dinner?” every day!

a tale of three closets

one thing i really wanted to do this weekend was organize my closets! i have three different closets that i use for all of my clothes {plus 2 sets of built in drawers, but we won’t even go there right now!} for a long time, one closet has been for pants and shoes, one for tops and shoes, and one for dresses, skirts, and more shoes. i would say that more than half of the time i am not wearing anything from those three closets because i am wearing workout clothes. so i dig through my deep built in drawers to find the ones i want to wear, and i end up forgetting about some of what i have or it just ends up lost in a mix of loungewear… no bueno. so i decided to overhaul the closet situation and devote an entire closet to the stuff that i wear and love the most. so here it is:

closet #1- used to be pants and shoes, now it is workout clothes, shoes, headbands, sports bras, and socks

i love how clean and organized everything looks, and it’s definitely going to be a lot easier to find what i am actually looking for everyday! now onto the drawers i suppose…

last one, best one

yesterday was my fourth grade students’ last of five MCAS sessions for the year and I couldn’t help myself from talking lifting talk to them…

I am constantly yelling “last one, best one” to myself in my head during my workouts and heavy lifts and I hope it motivated them to give it their all, at least a little bit!

yesterday was our rest day and I actually got sad when I saw the wod was “Nancy”. I’m eager to do my first girl or hero wod, and Nancy didn’t look crazy scary to me {until I really thought about it}. But, I was so sore from the day before that there was no way it was happening. I did get my first taste of feeling like a crazy crossfit person, though, when I felt left out and like I was missing something on a rest day. I swear I get more and more excited about it every day!

this morning, we hopped out of bed and push presses 5×5 were on the menu. here’s what I did, although I feel that I could’ve/should’ve gone heavier on my last set because 95# wasn’t feeling too hard for me. using my legs to drive mixed with being allowed a tiny pause between reps realllllly really helps me out.

the hard part came after that: the kettle bell wod! these things KILL me! it was 3 Rounds for Time, but actually more of an AMRAP because they cut you off at 10min…

  • 45 power swings
  • 30 goblet squats
  • 20 American swings
  • 10 burpees

I did exactly 2 rounds, and my shoulders and traps were on fireeeee! my lovely sweat angel was proud.

i had to cool off for awhile before heading into the bathroom to get ready for work, but my little system of freshening up worked well, so i will certainly be blogging about it as soon as i can get my act together enough to take pictures of the whole process!

mike and i are on our way out to dinner tonight. thursdays are his fridays, and we don’t workout on friday mornings, so it’s a nice little relaxing night to go out. i am seriously craving a giant burger with crazy stuff all over it after a week of pretty boring lunches and dinners. this weekend will require a serious shift in meal planning and grocery shopping because i feel like i’ve been hangry for a week! need to change things up around here!

deadlifts for breakfast

happy tuesday!

this morning’s wod was 5×5 deadlifts. a couple weeks ago, my IRM was 225#, which was pretty great considering the fact that i hadn’t deadlifted in at least four or 5 months. so today, here’s what i did for 5×5…

the 180×5’s were good, but my legs were definitely rocking! it has been really difficult getting used to not pausing at all at the bottom of each rep, and i can totally see how this tap-and-go method is more effective for building muscle, strength, and endurance. i can already see and feel myself getting stronger and just more efficient with each workout!

yesterday’s wod was one i am still feeling, too.

10 rounds of:

  • 1 minute row
  • 15 sec rest
  • 30 sec push up
  • 15 sec rest

i actually liked it a lot! i ended up doing a total of 139 push ups and my arms, shoulders, and chest are feeling it today!

and after about a month of waking up at 5 and heading right to crossfit, i think i am finally getting the hang of it {and even really looking forward to it}!!! at first, i was really nervous before each wod, but now i am feeling so much more comfortable with whatever they throw at me. i am also getting pretty good at getting ready for work sans shower! i’m going to write a post on my little routine, but since there are no showers at my box, and it is more than halfway to work for me, i just skip the shower altogether after my workouts. some days are sweatier than others, and as the weather gets warmer and warmer, i am sure it’ll be a whole new challenge. i certainly don’t look my best, but to me it’s a sacrifice i am willing to make three or four days a week!

here i am today- didn’t even wash my face since after the wod today wasn’t especially sweaty…

definitely not my prettiest, but not terrible. it’s also day #4 of not washing my hair, so the headband went from workout to work today.
