three in a row!

it has been a great week of workouts so far!! tuesdays and thursdays are strength days at the box, plus kettle bell wods after the lifts. tuesday was push press 5×3, and i felt great! i even felt like i could’ve done more weight, but i am still getting used to the way things work at crossfit, so i went with the percentages prescribed…

the kettle bell wod that followed the push presses was SO hard. so so hard.

  • 30 american swings
  • 15 over the bell burpees

i finished 3 rounds and 5 burpees. my shoulders were ON FIRE.

wednesday morning, the metcon was awesome…

it felt pretty easy. i was thinking about adding 5 pounds for my last set, but decided to leave it as it was. {kinda wish i added, though}

it hurt to hold the steering wheel of my car after all those snatches!

making the most of memorial day weekend

let’s go back to friday afternoon, the start of the lovely long weekend! poor mike had to work saturday, sunday, and monday, so we tried to squeeze in some fun in the mornings and at night.

on friday after school, i came home, showered, and we headed right down to west hartford. i did a little shopping and we grabbed a drink and sat out on the sidewalk until the skies opened up! we were trying to decide where to go to dinner, and capital grille it was! it was SO delicious and relaxing…

and of course, i am reckless and some of my wine went flying!

on saturday morning, mike went off to work and i went for a run and did all kinds of errands and felt like a real housewife. when he got home, we were both so tired that we just got out favorite mexican takeout and relaxed like bums. it was pretty perfect, actually!

the next morning, we were all nice and rested up, so we headed out for the same run i did the day before. it was a nice, fast 3.5 miles, but when we got home, i wanted more! so, i made us do a 20 minute “deck wod”. it was similar to the one i did last weekend, minus the sit ups because both of our butts were recovering from sit up injuries!!! after that, we were super sweaty, sore, and ready for our days!

our crossfit box was closed on monday, so we went to our other gym and took over the group exercise room. we did 3 rounds of this crazy, exhausting, wonderful wod I found online.

i ordered us some jump ropes so we can practice our double unders, and just so we can add them to our home wods when we feel like it! can’t wait for them to get here tomorrow…

after that torture, i did 50 american kb swings and some ab work…. so so so sweaty!

i think i spent a lot of time doing research online this weekend too {wedding, shopping, workouts, houses, teaching ideas, etc!} i found this awesome shirt that i think i need to get for mike for a funny wedding present…

last weekend

since it’s almost time for the weekend, i thought i would share some pictures from last weekend!

saturday started off with an at-home-wod:

sunday was such a nice day and it was even more nice to have mike home!!! we got so much done, it was really the perfect day…

we went and had breakfast and took the pups for a little run and swim!

ruby is so cute with the whole swimming thing. every year, she gets more daring and this year, i have a feeling she’s going to be just like brutus: always wanting to be in the water! pools, oceans, lakes, ponds, puddles…. they love it!

then i did all kinds of house stuff while mike washed our cars until i begged him to go to the driving range!

we also had ice cream for lunch. it’s always a good idea.

later on, we took the dogs on their favorite walk {this is something i have been seriously loving lately} and grilled out on our lovely little deck {also loving!}

it was just a simple, perfect day.

thursday & some random thoughts

still can’t totally straighten my arms after the monday/tuesday wods, but i think that’s a good thing?? tuesday night, i had to be ridiculous and use a bottle opener to open my mich ultra, that’s how sore and weak i was!

this morning, we were back at it, though, and it was romanian deadlift time. here’s what i did, but like before, my coach says i definitely could have gone up in weight… maybe that means i am already getting stronger since i used the percentages prescribed…

a sore start to the week!

monday morning’s wod made my forearms explode…

10 Min AMRAP

  • 10 hang power cleans (i did 83#)
  • 10 pull ups

i ended up finishing  3 Rounds + 10 cleans, which was a total of 40 cleans and 30 pull ups. the cleans were my favorite part by far, and the pull ups made me angry. the weirdest part was that my grip was so exhausted by the third round it was hard just to hold onto the bar! but i did feel awesome when it was over, even though i still can’t really straighten my arms.

this morning i was ready for some heavy lifting!

i based my percentages off of my front squat 1RM at my old gym, which was 175#… i was nervous that i would have trouble with the weights, but by the time i did my fourth round, my coach told me to add some weight for the 5th round. i did it, no problem, and could’ve added some more, but i am proud of what i did! i felt good & strong!

after that, it was KB wod time… i was kind of dreading it because my upper body was still so sore from monday’s wod. basically, it was a 10 minute EMOM, and if you couldn’t keep up with the minutes, you were cutoff! i ended up getting cutoff after 8 complete rounds of 5 burpees and 15 catch & release kettle bell swings, plus 5 burpees and 7 swings…. so hard. so, so hard!

but here’s an awesome picture my coach took of me doing it!

tomorrow is {a much needed} rest day, so mike and i just got back from taking the pups for a walk, and now it is time to relax!

it was a sunday. i had been sick for almost two weeks and finally left the house that morning to go to a friend’s baby shower. mike was working until 5, so as soon as i got back from the shower, i laid on the couch and waited for him to get home with our pizza. i was still wearing my nice-ish shirt from earlier, but had mike’s gigantic sweatpants on as my bottoms. i was a mess. a sweaty, sick-looking mess who then ate a half of a pizza! right after we ate, mike went and changed into jeans and said he had to go drop a title off at his friend’s house, which i truly thought nothing of! i just laid right back on the couch like a huge bum and watched E News or some other show i can only watch when he isn’t home!

about an hour later, mike came home, and i was about ready to fall asleep. he went into the guest room and changed into his comfy clothes, and the next thing i knew, he had come up behind me on the couch, wrapped his arms around me, and put the open ring box right on my chest. then he said, “wanna get marrrrrried???!!!” i could NOT believe this. it was SUNDAY NIGHT! i was DISGUSTING! i had just eaten A HALF OF A PIZZA! so i said, “shut the f* up!” and “i hate you!!” so sweet, right. so romantic?! but i was SOOOO happy…. i was at the point where i was thinking i would be waiting a really long time for this moment! i finally really said “YES” and put my gorgeous, dream-come-true ring on my finger!

i was so happy i could’ve died! i no longer felt sick or tired at all, i was so excited and mike was so sweet about the whole thing. he then told me that he didn’t go to his friend’s, HE LIED! he had gone to my parents’ house to ask for their permission to MARRY ME! they had just gotten home from DC and he had been waiting all weekend for them to get home so he could ask in person. i, of course, wanted to know EVERYTHING they said, and hearing him tell me how it all went down made me the happiest of all. mike is the most amazing guy ever, and not only am i so lucky to have him, but my entire family is lucky to be adding such a great person to our little team!

we made some very happy phone calls, and then went on to drink TWO BOTTLES OF WINE and stay up until 1;30am talking about our excitement and pretty much just staring at my ring, dreaming of the future. i think mike also danced with brutus saying “are you excited you’re gonna have a real mom!?!” i honestly couldn’t even believe it was real! it’s so funny because i always imagined mike making a big deal when he decided to propose and take me somewhere, or be out in public, but i am SO HAPPY he did it this way because, honestly, it is so “us”. we have pizza every sunday {especially during football season}, it was simple, casual, private, relaxed, and just easy. i am so insanely lucky to have found the guy who makes me happier than i have ever been in my life, supports me and everything i do, loves me every single day, and makes all of my dreams a reality!

what we eat

mike and i like to have a plan., especially when it comes to food. we make a meal plan before the beginning of each week, and shop accordingly. we have gotten really good at streamlining our shopping, which makes everything else so much easier!!

basically, mike goes to BJs every few weeks and stocks up on things we eat all the time: ground turkey, chicken breasts, pork tenderloin, chobani, laughing cow, brussel sprouts, coffee, and some household stuff.

then, we go to the regular grocery store weekly for fresh produce, milk, and whatever else we need for the meals on our weekly plan.

the salmon and steak tips are things we will buy the day-of, but everything else is all set and ready to go… so easy, and SO worth it to not think about “what’s for dinner?” every day!

a tale of three closets

one thing i really wanted to do this weekend was organize my closets! i have three different closets that i use for all of my clothes {plus 2 sets of built in drawers, but we won’t even go there right now!} for a long time, one closet has been for pants and shoes, one for tops and shoes, and one for dresses, skirts, and more shoes. i would say that more than half of the time i am not wearing anything from those three closets because i am wearing workout clothes. so i dig through my deep built in drawers to find the ones i want to wear, and i end up forgetting about some of what i have or it just ends up lost in a mix of loungewear… no bueno. so i decided to overhaul the closet situation and devote an entire closet to the stuff that i wear and love the most. so here it is:

closet #1- used to be pants and shoes, now it is workout clothes, shoes, headbands, sports bras, and socks

i love how clean and organized everything looks, and it’s definitely going to be a lot easier to find what i am actually looking for everyday! now onto the drawers i suppose…
